WhatsApp Business: Same Group Features as Regular WhatsApp

WhatsApp Business offers business-specific features like quick replies, labels, catalogs, and away messages. For groups, WhatsApp Business works the same as regular WhatsApp.

Both versions let you create, join, and post in groups. Neither offers a native feature to send one message to many groups at once. The forward limit is 5 chats at a time for both.

Broadcast Lists: For Contacts, Not Groups

Broadcast lists in WhatsApp Business let you send one message to many individual contacts (up to 256). Each recipient receives it as a private 1:1 message, not as a group post.

Broadcast lists are for customer messaging, announcements to saved contacts, and updates where you want replies to come back privately — not for posting into groups.

Labels and Catalogs Do Not Post to Groups

Labels organize your chats and contacts — for example, "New customer," "Pending payment," or "Follow-up." Labels do not send messages.

Catalogs showcase your products or services. Customers see your catalog when they message you. Catalogs do not post into groups or send messages.

What About WhatsApp Business API?

WhatsApp Cloud API (formerly Business API) is designed for 1:1 messaging at scale. Businesses use it for customer-service replies, transactional notifications, and marketing messages to individual contacts. It does not support posting into existing groups.

Your Options for Posting to Multiple Groups

1. Manual forwarding

Forward your message to 5 groups at a time, then repeat until you reach all groups. Slow and repetitive, but works for small group lists.

2. WhatsApp Communities

3. Multi-group tools

Dedicated platforms connect to your WhatsApp Business number and post into groups that number already belongs to. These tools handle pacing, campaign management, and posting to dozens or hundreds of groups at once.
